Linscombe Farm is situated in a quiet valley in the heart of rural Mid Devon. It is 4 miles from the small market town of Crediton.
The farm has been registered with the Soil Association since 1996, under symbol no G2047, and Organic Certification is UK5.
The fundamental ethos of Linscombe Farm is to supply our own home grown vegetables locally, keeping our environmental impact to a minimum. We aim to supply as much as we can directly to the end consumer. This is achieved through our box scheme and the farmers' markets. We stick to strong "green" principles - keeping packaging to a minimum, reducing waste, using returnable and reusable plastic boxes, delivering to collection points to keep transport movements down, and supporting other local growers and businesses.
Almost uniquely for a box scheme, all the vegetables in the box are produced on the farm - nothing is bought in or imported. We also raise almost all our own transplants.
Vegetables are also supplied wholesale to other box schemes in Devon, and to shops and pubs in the area.
The vegetable production area extends to 45 acres in crop production. We have recently added an additional area of rented land - also of course registered with the Soil Association - at Hollocombe Farm 3 miles from Linscombe. We now have 21 poly tunnels, 3 of which are used in plant raising.
We raise over 300 varieties of vegetable, including many heritage varieties, in order to ensure continuity of supply, and preserve the survival of the vegetable genes that would otherwise be lost. The wide diversity of crops supports a multitude of insects which provides food for many bird species.
