Tyne and Wear - North Country Organics

North Country Organics

Airport Industrial Estate,
Newcastle upon Tyne

Welcome to North Country Organics
Welcome to North Country Organics. Our aim is to provide our customers with quality Organic produce at affordable prices! We work closely with The North East Organic programme to be able to source as much local produce as possible.

Our organic fruit & vegetable box scheme now has around 250 customers, which tells us that people here in the region are as passionate about what they eat and where it comes from as we are.

The box scheme is a weekly running scheme, so once signed up you will automatically get a box each week unless you notify us otherwise.

We currently deliver in Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, north to Morpeth & west to Hexham.

Our Producers

We are currently getting Organic milk from Acorn Dairy in Darlington, Eggs from TPF Organics in Berwick, Meat from Northumbrian Quality Meats and potatoes from Nafferton Farm with other vegetables due from them later in the year.

We visit every farm to see their operation prior to taking produce from them, this enables us to be sure that we are receiving the best produce we can get. It also enables us to build a rapport with the farmers ensuring that we can deal with them direct.

We don’t believe in Air freight and try our hardest to keep food miles down, even if this means we sometimes have to collect produce ourselves.

Why Organic Food?

Organic food is produced according to certain production standards. For crops, it means they were grown without the use of conventional pesticides, artificial fertilizers or sewage sludge, and that they were processed without ionizing radiation or food additives. For animals, it means they were reared without the routine use of antibiotics and without the use of growth hormones.

Organic foods are becoming much more widely available and there is evidence that organic farms are more sustainable and environmentally sound, among other benefits.
Taste - Many people tell us they buy organic food because they believe it tastes better.
Food Safety - Organic farmers, as far as possible, avoid using unnecessary chemical sprays. Food additives linked to asthma and heart disease are among those banned under organic standards.
The Environment - Organic farming is friendlier to the environment so there is a much greater diversity of birds, butterflies and plants on organic farms. Organic standards ban the use of GM technology.
Animal Welfare - Organic farming requires animals to be kept in more natural, free-range conditions with a more natural diet.
