Welcome to Cornish Organic Wool. Our wool is 100% organic, both produced and spun organically with the Soil Association certification at every stage. The company is owned by Matt & Julia Hopson and is based outside Penzance in the very far south-west of Cornwall. Julia also owns Knit Wits wool shop in Penzance and our wool can be purchased there as well as on-line.
The aim of our company is to source Cornish Organic Wool from local farmers and supply the spun wool to you, the customer, with minimal impact on the environment. All our farmers are Soil Association accredited or are certified with Organic Farmers & Growers Ltd (OF&G) and are dedicated to the welfare of their animals. Our wool is spun at the only Soil Association accredited spinning mill in the country which is based in Launceston, near Bodmin, in Cornwall. This means that our wool is organically farmed, scoured and spun and has "Made In Cornwall" status. The company, 'Cornish Organic Wool' has also been licenced by the Soil Association. Licence No: DK 17262
The wool is spun to standard UK DK, Aran,Chunky and 4 Ply weights which means you can use it for all your favourite patterns. Additionally we sell knitting kits, many of which have Cornish themes including children's Cornish Ganseys and a Celtic Cable handbag. Where we have included extra items in our kits (such as bag handles), these items are sourced from fair trade or local suppliers. The kits themselves are supplied in bags made from sustainable forests and we mail everything in recycled jiffy bags with padding made from recycled newspapers.
