21st Century Health's vision is to provide the highest quality products with the lowest possible environmental impact. By offering a large range of products at reasonable prices, the company aims to encourage every home to transform the way they shop for personal care products.
The company was set up 12 years ago by myself – Gabrielle – and my husband Steven Chasan. We were concerned about the unknown synergy (or ‘chemical cocktail’ effects) between the thousands of chemicals that are used in many cleaning and personal care products. We realized that it was possible to avoid many of these toxins by using natural organic products that had been designed to perform to the same level as more traditional products but without using potentially harmful ingredients. Careful selection, and a lot of traveling and negotiation, has enabled us to provide you with a range of products that cover your every cleaning need and that protect and soothe you at home, at work, in the car and on holiday.
Natural products can now produce the same results as leading brands, but with noticeably less impact on the environment and avoiding the many potential health issues associated with many of the ‘traditional’ ingredients. No-one wants to create health scares, but more and more people are becoming concerned about the potential impact on health of a raft of products – from food to cosmetics to gadgets.
Substances previously thought of as harmless are being shown to be harmful and removed – such as trans-fats – whereas for others, evidence is still lacking. Parabens are a good example of the latter. These synthetic chemicals are used as preservatives (i.e. they stop fungi and bacteria growing) in the cosmetics industry and can be found in most shampoos, moisturizers, shaving gels and toothpastes. Many people feel uncomfortable with the level of parabens that they are exposed to, even though there is no scientific evidence to suggest a long-term problem.
However, have you ever considered how many paraben-containing products might one person use over a 10-year period and how impossible it might be to measure the effects scientifically? Even the most modest user of personal care products will probably go through about 20 tubes of the parabens-containing products a year. Long-term health problems may not arise until after 20 years of use, so that is 4000 different products to catalogue for each person studied – impossible! So if you have a niggling doubt that something isn’t right and you’d rather not be exposed to any more parabens than you have to, you can feel secure in the knowledge that all the products available from 21st Century Health are parabens-free.
Electromagnetic radiation is another good example. For years, there have been anecdotal stories about the effects of electricity pylons and phone masts, yet, to date, there are no scientific facts to prove any harmful effects. But – if there is something simple that you can do to neutralize this electromagnetic radiation…well, why not try a Bio Shield and see?
Recycling and fair trade may sound like hard work and extra money, but consider the wider impact that these two have, in terms of global poverty, industrialization and world harmony. As Far Eastern and African countries develop industrially, what right do we in the Western world have to tell them to restrain their industries because of climactic change and pollution. Why should we have it all once again? By leading the way, we can allow them to develop and help them to find cleaner ways that are economic also. Fair trade is another method of ensuring that the West doesn’t ‘have it all’. Do you really want to wear clothes that have been made by a 5-year old child, while your own 5-year old child, nephew or grandson plays happily in the school playground. Do you really want to eat a banana that someone in absolute poverty has tended and produced? As more and more people join the bandwagon, products become more available and cheaper. Just as former ‘exotics’ such as pesto and chorizo are now staple products of our supermarkets, fair trade, organic food, local food and recycled products are all much more widely available and cheaper.
This just goes to show the power of the individual. The only reason that this has happened is because people have voted with their wallets. Big business then has no option but to respond. You have the power to change your environment for the better – and at the same time, introduce yourself to some fantastic products with ‘real’ fragrances that should also bring a number of health benefits. We hope that you enjoy our natural and wonderful products and feel empowered to make further positive changes to your life.
